Foods to Add to Your Diet Your Skin Will Love

As you may have heard, beauty starts from within, and eating the right food is an important part of your beauty regime. A diet rich in refined carbohydrates, sugar and fat has a detrimental effect on the body as a whole and will eventually take its toll on the skin. Many people that suffer from skin conditions such as acne, eczema, dermatitis and dry or oily skin often find that their symptoms improve after making a few dietary changes. The following foods are packed with skin-boosting antioxidants and plenty of vitamins and minerals to help you heal your skin from the inside.

Oily Fish

Omega 3 is an essential fatty acid that fights inflammation in the body. Those with inflammatory skin conditions such as eczema should up their omega 3 intake by eating oily fish such as tuna, salmon and mackerel. According to WebMD, omega 3 is also fantastic for keeping the heart healthy and protecting the joints. Olive oil, avocados, hazelnuts and almonds are also wonderful sources of omega 3.

Berries

If you want to keep wrinkles at bay, then add a generous helping of blueberries, strawberries and raspberries to your diet. As well as giving your skin a healthy dose of vitamin C, berries help the body produce collagen that is essential for skin elasticity and strength.

Brazil Nuts

Brazil Nuts contain a substance called selenium that is another powerful antioxidant. Many studies have reported that selenium can also help protect the skin from sun damage, age spots and even melanoma. Brazil nuts are also rich in vitamin E that protects the skin from oxidative cell damage.

Leafy Greens

Leafy green vegetables such as spinach, kale, broccoli and lettuce are packed with antioxidants that clear the body of damaging free radicals that attack healthy cells. Tretinoin is found in the vitamin A family and can help to prevent fine lines, wrinkles and a splotchy complexion. Other sources of vitamin A include carrots, sweet potato and pumpkin.

Wholegrains

Wholegrains are an important part of any balanced diet and help to prevent against heart disease. Wholegrains also contain zinc that works to repair skin damage and keep skin silky smooth. Brown rice, whole wheat bread, popcorn, oats and quinoa are all ideal wholegrains to add to your diet.

Water

As well as a selection of healthy foods, water is extremely important for clear, healthy skin. Water flushes the body of toxins, and nutritionists recommend at least eight glasses per day. A squeeze of fresh lemon added to water makes a wonderful detox drink that is a great way to start the day.
