We recently had the opportunity to learn more about Hannah, her approach, and the path that led her to become a physician assistant.

What made you decide to pursue a career in dermatology? What did the path to get there look like for you?

I have always had a passion for dermatology. I fell in love with the fact that I could physically see my patients improve from one visit to the next. Growing up, my dermatologist helped me navigate problems I had with my skin and gain confidence. Ever since, I knew I wanted to pursue a career helping others accomplish the same.

While I was at Indiana State University for my Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies, I completed multiple clinical rotations in dermatology and that solidified this career path for me.

What is your favorite aspect of being a dermatologist?

It’s so rewarding to follow up with my patients and hear how their lives have improved now that their dermatologic conditions are managed. It’s a privilege to be able to partake in this journey. My favorite part about dermatology is how detail-oriented the work is. Looking at a lesion using a different angle or source of light can provide you with the information needed to solve the puzzle.

What is your approach to treating your patients?

I want my patients to know that during their appointment, I am focused on them. Any thoughts, fears, concerns, or questions they may have, I want to hear. My goal is for my patients to leave the office feeling confident about our treatment plan and supported by members of our team here.

What is your number one tip when it comes to taking care of your skin?

Our skin is our largest organ, so it’s imperative to protect it. Sun protection should be made a priority, whether by using mineral sunscreens, UPF clothing, wide-brim hats, sunglasses, or simply avoiding direct sun. Your future skin will thank you.

What is one thing you want your patients to know about you?

I would like my patients to know I am always here for them. Your concerns are valid and your thoughts matter. I want to work with my patients to formulate a treatment that provides them with the best care while ensuring their wishes are cared for.

What do you like to do when you are not in the office treating patients?

Outside of work, I enjoy traveling, trying new hobbies, and being outdoors. Playing tennis, hiking, and running are a few of my favorite activities.
