Delivering an Individualized Approach to Care
Jake, a Greenwood native, goes above and beyond to ensure that every patient has the best possible experience. With his new role at The Dermatology Center of Indiana’s Greenwood practices, he looks forward to providing individualized and thorough dermatology care to patients in the Greenwood and southern Indianapolis community.
We recently had the opportunity to learn more about Jake, his approach, and the path that led him to become a board-certified physician assistant.
What made you decide to pursue a career in dermatology? What did the path to get there look like for you?
I really enjoy the variety that dermatology offers. Initially, during school, I didn’t have an interest in dermatology; however, after completing my dermatology rotation, the mix of medical, surgical, and cosmetic care really resonated with me. Dermatology offers a blend of medical problem-solving and long-term patient relationships. The variety and hands-on nature make it a very rewarding specialty.
What is your favorite aspect of being a board-certified physician assistant?
As a physician assistant in dermatology, one of my favorite aspects is building long-term relationships with patients. Skin is constantly evolving, so I enjoy seeing patients’ progress and catching up on their lives throughout the years.
What is your approach to treating your patients?
I approach care as a partnership. My goal is to understand the full picture and the patient’s goals. Then we can work collaboratively to develop an evidence-based plan that fits their routine and provides results.
What is your number one tip when it comes to taking care of your skin?
Focus on the basics first. Not everyone needs a 10-step skincare routine. Get a good sunscreen, moisturizer, and cleanser that you like and, most importantly, will use regularly. Then you can always build from there.
What is one thing you want your patients to know about you?
I want patients to know that I will hear their concerns and create solutions. As a Greenwood native, I’m grateful to provide care and improve the lives of the community where I grew up.
What do you like to do when you are not in the office treating patients?
At home, I enjoy working on house projects or spending time in the backyard with my dog, Nova. I also enjoy traveling to new countries with my wife, Emily. We are always looking for the next best place to go hiking.
